Courses & Activities - Walking Weekends

So what are you letting yourself in for?

Group of walkers

You will have your own room, or share with a friend if you wish, within the Castle’s main building. Please note that bathrooms are shared. Throughout the weekend we will aim to equip you with basic navigation skills and knowledge to aid your safety whilst walking in upland areas.

Friday Evening

Arrival at Ford Castle between 6.00 – 7.00 pm Introductions, domestic arrangements, unpacking and course schedule will be followed by a light buffet and a short First Aid Course (1hr). The remainder of the evening will be spent relaxing in our Lounge Bar.

Saturday

The first session will be organised after we have consumed a full English breakfast. A packed lunch will be taken out on the ‘Hill’ where practical navigational skills will be learnt and practiced. A home-cooked hearty three course evening meal will be followed by the second hour of the First Aid Course. The evening will again be rounded off in the Lounge Bar reliving the exploits of the day.

Walking in the Cheviots

Sunday

A further theory/practical session will precede lunch. Then after packing you will be allowed to depart homeward for a well-earned rest, safe in the knowledge that you are now much better equipped to take family and friends in the ‘Hills’ safely.
